| Humans are the most savage killers on this planet. There is no justification for the deaths of sharks. It has sadly become socially accepta ble over the past 30 years, to go hunting for shark to satisfy a sporting and bloodthirsty need. Worse than this though, shark finning is the despicable trade of catching sharks, removing the fins and in many cases dumping the carcass back into the water. Over centuries this has, as with hunting shark for food, been a way of life and survival for many coastal inhabitants of the globe. Sharks will attack humans in water primarily because we humans don't belong there. Along with provocation, shortage of natural food because of over fishing, simple mistaken identity or because sharks are constantly being lured by thrill seekers into the shallows by bait for the thrill seeking tourists. Like most creatures, sharks learn and having bait & food around boat s will of course mean that sharks will associate the two. This has become more of an excuse to venture out and murder these amazing creatures. In the same way that it is accepted that wild animals of Africa and the rain forests are in need of protection, so too it should be accepted that sharks are also endangered and in need of protection. There are many organisation around the world trying to persuade governments and fishery authorities to ban shark fishing, hunting and finning. There is some action and in a few areas bans are in place, but only a few and a wider coverage of bans and a greater understanding of our planet is needed by so many ignorant people to be able to effectively save sharks and many other important creatures from extinction. | |
